Here lately, Daddo and I have heard some pretty crazy things in our house. Between the ages of 2, 6 and 7, our kids sometimes have us rolling with laughter from what comes out of their mouths.  I’d love to be the parent who remembers everything her kids say and writes them all down in their baby books. But, I’m not. I do better with their scrapbooks than I do their baby books. So, again, for mostly my own benefit, I’ve decided to jot down some of the crazy, random statements my kids have said this summer. I’m going to love reading this post in about 10 years.

Starting with the oldest, Will no longer says things that are super cute and funny like his baby brother. He has entered the stage of awkwardness and sometimes confusion in trying to communicate his feelings and emotions. In early July we went to San Antonio to visit some friends and to camp out in our trailer for a week. We ventured to Sea World and the Alamo of course and everyone had a great time.  While we were there with our friends, Will got to see 9 year old Shanley. He’s known her his whole life but hasn’t seen her in about 3 years.  They played great together all day at Sea World. One of the days at their house we noticed that the two of them got in a slight argument and physical altercation in the pool involving dunking and throwing the volleyball. For awhile afterward, Will sat off by himself sulking although the ‘fight’ was nowhere near worthy of this type of emotion. Jake went over and talked to him.  Turns out Will was super embarrassed that the tall, blonde, blue-eyed and tan 9 year old Shanley dunked him after they argued over a water volleyball dispute. She was over it. He was not. My usual competitive little guy who never even hardly acknowledges the female species, was gun shy; nervous. When Jake repeatedly asked him what was wrong and why he was so sad and quiet, Will finally answered with, “I can’t explain what I’m feeling.” Awwww, the joy of the first crush. My poor guy. I feel sorry for him for what lies ahead for the next 10-15 years. The girls better be gentle with his sweet, little heart. As tough as he seems on the outside with his take-no-prisoners competitive edge, he is a sensitive soul that I just want to protect from the evil world of GIRLS.

Boy #2… Middle child #1… Cole Mac. As I’ve blogged before, what hasn’t Cole said that isn’t a shocker, comedic relief or blog-worthy quote? Here we go. The 6 year old now has opinions, feelings, and, gulp, a stubborn side. My easy-going, typical middle child who is always the peacemaker of the group is now also the dramatic bargain-maker. He will do everything in his power to get you to do what he wants. Cry, tremble his bottom lip, argue, LIE, and yes bargain with you. After playing ALL day with his best friends from two houses down, Tate and Talon, he asks to go play with his other neighborhood buddy Xander. I tell him that it is too late and he needs to stay in. “But what can I doooooooo?” he asks with a high pitched crying voice while batting his long brown eyelashes. I tell him that he can go shower and get ready to end his day. “But you NEVER let me play with my friends….. I never have ANYONE to play with!” It does not work with me.
Though some things never change. When asked if he wanted to go down to Katy to visit my BFF Amy and her girls for a few days he gladly offered to stay home with Daddo so he wouldn’t “be alone.” Come to find out, the two had a trip to the deer lease planned. Hunting over girls any day.
During the Olympics we were all talking about what our favorite sport was. Will named about 7 total that he would like to be in the Olympics for. Cole said his favorite was hog hunting and that it was too hard a sport to even have in the Olympics so ‘that’s why its not on the tv.’
I do have to brag on my little hog hunter though. His first day of Fall Ball Machine Pitch Baseball practice the other day; practice hadn’t even started yet and he and Will were playing catch. Cole took one straight in the mouth from Willbo. After I got to the park with some ice and was kneeling down next to him with his very swollen and bloody lip I asked him if he wanted to go home with me. He said, “yes, I think I should….” a quick glance at Daddo kneeling next to us and he adds, “I can stay I guess and, like, try to catch it.” That’s my boy. The hog hunter wins again.

He informed us he plans on being Captain America for Halloween AGAIN. This will be the 5th time…. in only 7 Halloweens 🙂
Cole at his end of year field trip. All the kids are off running around and playing in the park.  This is where I find Cole (hog hunting was not an option on the field trip).

Rhett Henry. Oh my. Where do I start. We are getting better. He is talking and communicating more and more and really starting to (I’m afraid to say it) slowly get out of his terrible two’s. Yes we were there. Tantrums every 30 minutes. Screaming and crying. Yelling ‘No!’ His grunt heard round the town (we haven’t done that in about 2 weeks).  Ugh. I thought it was the worst ‘terrible two’s’ EVER in the history of the world.  But of course the more he learns to talk and communicate with us, the better his attitude and demeanor. I’m just going to list his current statements that we hear on a daily basis.
As you read below, you can add in ‘Mommy’ at the end of each and every statement…. maybe a couple of times each to make it more realistic of what I hear, many, many times during the day. It’s beautiful music to my ears.

Mo Dwink (more drink)
Uh Kiss (insert name of immediate family member)
Uh Bucky )his blanket)
Uh cu Bucky (means to cover him with his blanket, then another blue blanket, then “uh big cu” is last to cover him with his comforter….. his going to bed ritual. He will not move from flat on his back all night long because these blankets haveto stay covering him in this order or he begins to yell, “uh-oh!”)
Momma Home! or Daddo Home!
Mesouse (Mickey Mouse, which we have to watch as soon as we wake up and before going to sleep)
Simmy (swimming)
Fuuuuuck (fork)
Shit Down (sit)
Heat (eat)
Cock (part car part truck- either will do)
Cowa (Cora)
I poop (you get it)
Pants (which can be shirt or pants)
Also he really enjoys saying the roll call of our family. As we pull into Hargis Dr he will say, “Momma, Daddo, Bubba, Cowe, Cowa!” When he and I are the only ones awake in the morning he’ll ask, knowing full well where everyone is, “Where’s Daddo? Where’s Bubba? Where’s Cowe? Where’s Cowa?” As I answer him between each question with “asleep in bed” he finally ends our conversation with his high pitched “okaaaaaaay Mommy! Mo Dwink Mommy” as I clumsily try to fill up his sippy cup of “mo wawm dwink.”
The communication is getting there. A moment of hope for me came just the other day. He wanted some juice and I poured some red fruit punch in his sippy cup. I told him he had to keep it in the kitchen unlike his usual milk or water he can take in the den. He started to throw a fit and walk off with the drink not minding me. I stopped him and took his cup and told him that it was red juice and then tapped it on the floor so some red spots came out on the tile. I showed him the spots and told him that if he takes it into the den then that spot would get on the carpet and on Mommas couch and then Momma would have to clean it up like I was with the spot on the tile. He then said, “Okaaaaaay.” He got it. All it took was a logical explanation and him understanding me and he left his cup in the kitchen. Sweet! Communication is key (so they say)!

Having a baby in the house has NOT affected Rhett at all.  🙂
One of my favorite pictures of Rhett this summer. He was running around a column in the Old Barracks at the Alamo playing peek a boo with me.

For the 4th child…. there are no wonderful quotes just yet, only a few coos and a smile! She had her first outloud giggle three days ago while she was in my lap and I was singing patty cake and clapping her hands together. She chuckled outloud!
But I can’t wait to have my first argument with my daughter. It is going to be a memory to cherish!

One of her first smiles. Out on the patio one morning while in my lap.
Divalicious in her backyard pool.

Cora Love had been to 7 of Will’s baseball games by the time she was 4 weeks old.
