As a Momma who rarely if ever misses any of my kids’ activities and events, in just a few days I missed a TON.
Briefly: Two weeks ago while in Dallas for Cora Love’s birth I missed Cole’s Awards Assembly where he won Most AR points for Kindergarten with 36 and All A’s for the year. Last week while in Dallas for Cora’s surgery I also missed the following……
Tuesday: Coles’ Field Day and Mega Bash: He fell in the sack race and won the 60 yd dash by ‘at least 10 yards’ according to Grump who was on duty for this activity. Will’s second to last baseball game of the regular season and against rival Overton. According to Grump (again on duty) ‘threw an out from his knees, 3 for 3 at bat with a 2-run homer to end the game.’
Thursday: 8:30 am Cole’s Kindergarten Graduation (Grammy on duty with the aid of LC co-workers to take pictures and video). Cole sprinted across the stage much as he did when he was a cupcake for a spring program. 9 am Will’s Award’s Ceremony (Grump on duty). Nonnie is at home with baby brother Rhett who has a fever and a cough. 6 pm Will’s last regular season game against other WR team (Grammy on duty because at the last minute Nonnie decides to take still sick Rhett to the Urgent Care in Kilgore and Grump goes along). Can’t find Will’s cleats. He goes through warm-ups in his tennis shoes (unhappily) until Grammy saves the day and finds them at Grump’s. Not a lot of detail about this game because sometime during, Cole pulls a tooth and the wind blows the napkin away holding the tooth, so Grammy spends the game looking all over the ground for lost tooth. Later that evening, Rhett is taken to the ER for croup then admitted to Mother Frances. Yep, I’m not there. Mother of the Year continues for me. Jake drives to Tyler and crawls up in small hospital bed and sleeps with him.
Saturday: Cole’s last t-ball game of the season. Play in Overton. Wins both games and has team pizza party at AJ’s. I talked to him on the phone before the game and of course Mr. Sensitivity tells me, “I wish you could be at my last game.”
I know Mommas feel guilt all the time because of the amount of activities of their children and the fact that they just CANNOT be at all of them. But, my goodness, if it was an important milestone or event to happen, it happened that week and I MISSED IT ALL.
When I got home Sunday during one of the 27 hugs I received for Cole, I started to tel him how sorry I was for missing (insert list of things I missed) and he interrupts me and says, “Well you had to fix my baby sister, so its ok.” I guess Jake and I are doing something right 🙂
It definitely takes a vilage to raise a child. Thanks goes out to all the people who snapped pictures of my babies this week knowing that I wasn’t there! Thanks to Shannon for videoing the graduation and Jessica for the video of the Award’s Ceremony. Ya’ll Rock!
