Day two had different weather than the other days. High of 55 with 25 mph winds. We slept in and had a lazy, late breakfast. We visited the Nature Center and picked up some souvenirs. The boys each got toy bow and arrow sets which entertained them for all of the day’s downtime.

We did manage a to get in a hike in the afternoon. Will and I had tried it out on the mountain bikes during naptime. But neither one of us are “mountain bikers” when we ride our “mountain bikes” so after about 10 minutes of rugged terrain and large rocks on the trail, we decided to turn back and take a nice scenic ride on the paved road.
When the family set out to hike the path, we got to the entrance of the trail and CL stopped in her tracks and started crying. I tried to get her to follow us but the fear had manifested itself deep within her. Finally a granola bar waved at her got her to walking. It didn’t last long. She was definitely being a hiking basket case. We lost that war and the day concluded with this:

Sunni went with us on this hike. The old girl was so excited and energized.
And she spent the rest of the evening t camp like this.

This afternoon hike ended up being 1.5 miles of rocky terrain and an hour and a half long. Daddo asked Rhett if he was ok and he said “I’m not tiwed. My wegs are just bwoken but I’m not tiwed.”
So far the only injuries haven’t come from  hiking high cliffs or rocky terrain. It hasn’t come from mountain biking or horseback riding. Cole had a huge spill on his bike

And after throwing a fit over walking the trails, CL ended up slipping on the side of the bath tub twice.

Getting a nice shiner.

After a couple days in the woods, it’s usually time to do the overall family check for insects like chiggers and ticks. The thought of these creepy little guys immediately makes my skin crawl. Shower time in the camper is a fast, crazy time anyways. With six people and a very small water heater tank, it is a race against time before the ice cold water starts spraying out the shower head. Usually we have to have a 30 minute space between the littles’ combo shower and the next big boy’s. Everyone in the camper knows exactly when someone’s shower has run out of warm water from the yelps, screams and ‘whoooooo! Cold cold cold!’ coming from the bathroom. On tick check night, each naked kid stands on the toilet lid while Momma or Daddo does te body check. I’m happy to announce that this trip had zero ticks or other bugs to report. Warmer weather campouts usually involve many more insect situations.
The next day is supposed to be another mild, beautiful day, so with more hiking in our future and paddle boats that the boys are begging for, I’m sure there’s another blog full of memories in store.
