Cora Love went for her follow up appointment with her surgeon on Tuesday the 26. To make it a ‘fun’ trip, Daddo, the two big boys and Uncle Ash attended the Rangers game the night before, while CL and I hung out with Katy (the ‘Aunt Girlfriend’).
So back to Cora Love. Her visit with her surgeon was at 9:30 at Children’s Medical Center. Dr Megison got to meet her big brothers and of course hold Cora. He said her coloring looked great but he’d check her liver enzymes anyway. He looked at her scar and said it was healing wonderfully. Cora Love’s boo boo travels from one side of the middle of her abdomen to the other, just below her rib cage. It won’t grow in proportion to the rest of her body, but won’t shrink either. Daddo says it will keep her out of a bikini. I tell him that’s wishful thinking. I’ll teach her to be proud of her war wound. She was a tough little girl. Her brothers can never call her a sissy! Dr. Megison talked to us about the stitches healing under her incision and about her slightly swollen abdomen. Possibly just irritation from everything that was cut and pulled out and mOved around during surgery. He said it should look less swollen with time. Dr. Megison went above and beyone for us. With no where to stay in the area, he saw our concern with not being able to stay with our baby while she was in the hospital. So although she was scheduled to be in the NICU post surgery, he ordered her to the Pedi ICU instead. There Jake and i could stay in the room with her all day and night. And we did. Then she was transferred to the surgery recovery floor instead of again the NICU. I never had to leave her side. We have Dr M to thank for that. So we took a picture, thanked him for everything he did for our family and said our goodbyes, hopefully forever.
May 22nd is her birthday and a wonderful day to remember. May 30th will always be our day of celebration. It was one of the hardest days of my life. But now it is the day that God spared Cora Love and decided He has big plans for her here on Arth. It is also the day that Cora’s parents were reminded of the power of prayer, that nothing is in our control, and God always has a plan.
We later found out her bilirubin is finally down to a normal range. She’s ‘fixed up!’
